Gaming Notebook Review - Alienware M17X

Gaming Notebook Review - Alienware M17X

Dell Inc. acquired Alienware in March 2006 as a subsidiary, but Alienware was founded about 10 years ago. Alienware had specialized in high performance desktops, notebooks and workstations. Previously, most major manufacturers, including Dell is not the potential of high performance gaming market to see. As demand grew for gaming laptops, Dell was drawn to Alienware.

Alienware's own name and the names of the products are inspired by the hit television series, The X-Files. Even the designs of its laptops have an extra-terrestrial themes.

Alienware's absorption Dell has not led to drastic changes in its products. Alienware actually have a lot of leverage now, since it is still autonomy in design and marketing, while benefiting from the supply chains of Dell, the purchasing power and production capabilities.

There is no doubt that the Alienware M17x is a gamer machine. The design is not ambiguous at all. LEDs are everywhere on the M17x, and we especially like the option that the user to adjust the lighting makes combo.

Like most gaming notebooks, the M17x is very heavy. And it is made harder due to the metal decorations, the eccentric design, the chassis and its internal components. Even the lid is heavy. Portability has fallen since we doubt that people are enjoying the performances of this much weight around.

We want the full-sized keyboard as responsive as any laptop that we tried. The M17x is able to do multimedia tasks very well. The figures speak for themselves: 17-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 high definition resolution. Moreover, the speakers deliver clear and loud noises.

Alienware does claim that the M17x is the "most powerful laptop in the universe." We're not sure about that, but we go along and say it ranks pretty high on that list. The laptop is equipped with two Nvidia GeForce 280M GTX graphics cards and a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9300 processor. This would not play too heavy to play.

Other features of the M17x include HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, four USB 2.0, eSATA, DisplayPort and FireWire ports, plus a memory card reader and an ExpressCard/54 slot.

Pros

It's hard to not have the Alienware M17x obsessed with its many top-of-the-line features and sheer power. We like its style and its robustness. Most people would definitely find the customization options handy, plus has an excellent graphics. Because it can be easily configured, it is more practical than others.

Cons

The weight of the Alienware M17x is a small problem. Upgrading the equipment is expensive and causes more trouble because they have more weight. The battery life leaves much to be desired.

Conclusion

We recommend the Alienware M17x to gamers, consumers and business people alike. It's just so good. If you are not the pain of your shoulder spirit after lugging around a few times or if it remains on the desk most of the time anyway, this laptop should definitely be considered a major contender for most people's attention and money.
